ECO FRIENDLY CAFES
It reminds us of the Swedish cafes. Light wood, white colors, light, plants and flowers to make it more welcoming if possible. But they are in special places: restyled factories, an old slaughterhouse or an earlier plumber’s … Architecture, wit and art to enjoy a busy city full of new enterprising proposals.
These are my favorite ones:
1. Italiana_Madrid: The best Italian coffee, an amazing chocolate cake and Italian flavored books . This is the place to enjoy a delicious coffee and chat with friends or to relax on your own with one of its books… It’s time to daydream and travel to one of the Italian Riviera charming towns.
2. Maricastaña: exposed brick white walls, the factory equipment and refurbished parts are mixed with new utilities (port lights made into bar lamps, balcony railings used as stairs, railings windows turned into mirrors), a place to talk and eat; the cod and leek flambé is terrific!
3. Slaughterhouse Canteen: Located in what used to be the old boiler of the factory, it has become into a restored space with an edgy style that retains the industrial aesthetics of the early twentieth century. Its daring appeal keeps the soul of an industrial past and previous neglect, with exposed brick walls, high ceilings, steel, the enormous oven taking up half the space, a grandstand that leads to a few tables and a huge glass wall that shows part of the film library, designed by José María Churtichaga and Cayetana de la Cuadra.
4. La ciudad Invisible : Looking for inspiration for your next trip? This is a relaxing and interesting place to enjoy a coffee and travel books. Ask the owners for tips around the world. They are expert travelers .
5. Vailima The owner think that “return to nature in style” is the future. That’s why their philosophy, which they call “Return to be healthy philosophy” , promotes the idea of appreciating the human values again and recovering the taste for details.
