Romantic Places in Madrid

In our search of peace we have come across this treasure:  the National Museum of Romanticism or, briefly, the Romantic Museum. Set in a 18th century Neo-classical mansion, its origin is due to the initiative of Benigno de la Vega-Inclán, who decided to donate his personal collection of paintings and furniture to create it. In 1924 Madrid’s Romantic museum was opened to the public and since then, it has never stopped growing.

The Museum collections are arranged as in a wealthy bourgeois home during the romantic period. It boasts nowadays a magnificent collection of 19th century paintings, as well as a series of remarkably decorated rooms where they can be observed important aspects of Madrid’s society in the Romantic era, which in Spain coincided with the reign of Queen Isabella II. In addition to exceptional works by Goya, Madrazo, and Antonio Esquivel, you have the opportunity to discover some astonishing decors and art objects that together recreate the enchanting atmosphere of Romantic Madrid near two centuries ago. From the formal Ballroom to the lavish Boudoir, each space in the museum tells a fascinating story and invites you to take a journey back in time.

Café del Jardín

The museum gardens house a charming El Café del Jardín, where you can relax and dream sipping a tea and a piece of cake.

Do not miss this cute, peaceful, and rather unknown spot. It lays just a few steps away from Fuencarral Street, one of the trendiest shopping areas in Madrid.
